Tim Pulliam

Tim Pulliam celebrates nearly 20 years of award-winning TV journalism, covering breaking news, crime, politics, race and culture, and extreme weather across the country. 

​

Pulliam joins ABC News and KABC/ABC 7 from sister station WTVD/ABC 11 in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, where he was a reporter and anchor. Tim is also a correspondent for ABC News One, a network affiliate service where Pulliams's national news reports air on ABC Stations across the country. 

​

He grew up just north of RDU in a rural community called Person County.

​​

In 2021, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his reporting at WTVD on a story garnering national attention: The Shooting Death of Andrew Brown, Jr.

​​

Pulliam is a three-time winner of the National Association of Black Journalists "Salute to Excellence" Award (2020', 2016', 2011).

​

In 2017, Pulliam was named North Carolina/South Carolina "Reporter of the Year," by the Associated Press and the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas. 

​​

His television career began in Wilmington, N.C., and later in Columbia, S.C. where he was a reporter and anchor.

​

While in Columbia, Tim was honored with a Salute to Excellence Award from the National Association of Black Journalists and a local Media Champion Award from the Richland One Community Coalition for his in-depth coverage on synthetic drugs and their impact on young people. He was also president of the South Carolina Association of Black Journalists.

Tim's reporting adventures also took him to Florida where he broke several crime stories and covered high-profile court cases, such as the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial. In 2015, his news reports on the Michael Dunn murder trial were featured in an award-winning HBO documentary titled "3 1/2 Minutes: Ten Bullets." The film examined the life and untimely death of Jacksonville teenager Jordan Davis.

Pulliam has also worked in Washington D.C. as a print writer and public relations director for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

​

He's written published articles for The Huffington Post, The Washington Informer, and The Fight Magazine in Los Angeles. 

​​

Pulliam is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University. In 2019, WSSU named Pulliam among the top 40 alumni under the age of 40. 

​

Pulliam also holds a master's degree from The Johns Hopkins University.

​​

When Tim is not covering the news of the day, his hobbies include physical fitness, exploring new restaurants, and traveling throughout the country and abroad.
